The Hunting Trip that Wasn't

Another misadventure was Shad's first hunting trip. Shad has been looking at guns for who knows how long. Guns that would bring down BIG game. Game like Bears, Moose, and Caribou. Shad was invited to go hunting twice before this first trip, but was unable to go for different reasons, so when this opportunity came he planned and planned. He got together all his cold weather gear that he was issued from the Army, he got more gear that he was missing. The anticipation was like a kid on Christmas Eve.

He went with a guy from work and left after work one Friday. They were going to find the herd of Caribou in a valley eight hours North of here. The weather was going to be about 10 degrees below zero in the daylight hours. Shad didn't want me to tell everything that occurred, so to sum it up I thought it would be best to divide it up and put it in bullet format.

GOOD

-Got to be in the Arctic Circle

-Got to see Amazing Northern Lights while sleeping in the Truck

-Didn't run out of Fuel for the Truck

-Made it back Alive

Bad

-Hunting companion not being able to feel his toes 5 hours of hiking away from warmth

-Hiking 6 hours through snow covered brush to the valley where the caribou used to be

-Not seeing ANY living shootable animal

-Only having MRE's to eat

Learned

-next time take a snow machine
