Dall Sheep

Shad went hunting in the Brooks Range for a Dall Sheep.  It is quite an undertaking.  He needed all kinds of new gear for it.  Climbing boots and hiking poles.  He needed a super light weight tent and sleeping bag.  He needed two airplanes to get him in and two to get him out.

The hunting party.  Greg Furdek, Shad, and Ryan DeBonis.

A little rest, looking for sheep and taking in the view. Glaciers are off to the left.

Putting on a white Tyvek suit to keep the sheep from getting to scared. They hiked up from that valley below.

Got it.  After sleeping up against that hill in the background all night he pulled the trigger at 6 am on opening day.
I guess the rough part started here. He had to clean it and harvest the meat.  Pack it all up and put it all in his back pack to hike it out of there.  Shad split up from the other two at this point so he could get back sooner to make sure the meat didn't spoil. He crossed a river 4 times, in barefoot and very sparse clothing (half naked) as to not get everything wet. He was so tired after crossing the river he left some of his gear and meat on the other side and took a nap.  When Shad went back for it he found about 1/3 of it had been eaten by a bear.  Yep as he slept across the river, a bear was on just the other side.

He finally made it out of there and caught an earlier flight back.

He's Baaaa-aaaack, and looking a little roughed up.

Um, wow. So glad Shad didn't get eaten by a bear and kinda proud and grossed out at his conquest all at the same time.
