Equinox

The Equinox Marathon is ranked the 9th hardest Marathon in the World. It has an elevation change of 3,000 feet. Shad and his friend Zach chose to do that, but tack on an extra 13.8 miles on to it. They signed up and completed the UltraMarathon, a 40 mile race. Allison Monson was doing the regular marathon and trained with these guys on Saturdays.

 Shad and Zach

You can't see Shad in this one, but you can see Allie and Zach and the amazing view.

At the top of Ester's Dome overlooking the Tanana Valley.

This is a view of The Chute.  Just ahead of those two guys in front of Shad is where there is a steep drop off with a pair of Medics at the bottom.  It is one of the most dangerous parts of the course.

The beauty of the course was amazing enough.

This is mile 24.  If you look to the left of the road signs you'll see Shad and Zach's bibs standing out.

There they are.
Melissa (Zach's wife) and I met the guys here to feed them.  Their request was a pizza.  A greasy cheese pizza was going to give them a calorie boost they needed and wanted.  One can only eat so many gels and protein bars.

Shad coming in at the finish.  He was looking like he hurt pretty bad.

Oh I love this post!! So many beautiful pictures. See, you have to blog more so I can see Alaska. I love the views, that Ella finished with him, that you took so many pictures (that doesn't really seem like you), and that you were there supporting his insanity. Go Shad!!
